Day 21.... architecture.... and some oddities...

I have a busy weekend ahead and it starts tonight with a sleep-over at my best friend's house. And on Sunday there's a pool party here at 'Spice-girl's' to celebrate her hubs birthday. So I may not get the chance to visit your Blog until Monday. But I will, and look forward to it as there are sure to be lots of new posts up out there.
I'll leave you with some Townsville architecture and other bits and pieces. Enjoy!

The old (above) and the newer (below) - inner city

The old above and the newer aquarium - inner city

Two lovely old pubs on the Strand - above is the Queens Hotel and below is the "Cri"

Some beautifully designed homes on the lower reaches of Castle Hill overlooking Cleveland Bay

I'm awfully sorry to interrupt this post, but I no longer feel comfortable in calling this local 'strange', 'weird' or 'odd'.  The dedication to the 'sport'/'past-time'?? is striking to say the least,  and my admiration swells - she's been at "it" for 3 days straight now. . . . . . .

On a far, far more worrying note is how these locals dress to go out for afternoon tea.  I can only but fervently pray that neither of these peculiarities are in any way catching or heaven forbid that as time passes they become appealing to the visitor...er, you know, like to 'give it a go'.............

And I'll leave you with the lovely old Customs Building on the Strand.

Happy Blogging!

  1. I like old buildings much better. I don't think it's an age or nostalgia thing. I always have liked old things.

I can feel the pain and muscles in those arms.

Have a lovely weekend. You still do sleepovers [at your age]? HAHA! Good one, says the one who goes to capoeira camps with teenagers :) x

    1. I'm home from my sleep-over Typist, it was a blast and I didn't even partake in alcohol (I get drunk on life itself) :))
Aw Typist, I don't reckon you're as old as you make out. ;)
I love, love love, old buildings too. Especially if I can get inside them.

  2. I love the older buildings. I think they have more character then the 'newer' ones. But then I do love old things.

  3. You are certainly seeing a lot! Is that cylindrical building condos? I think it would be neat to live in a place like that!
I'm not sure what is up with the Alice in Wonderland getup, but I hope that's not becoming a trend. It wouldn't look good on most people, but she's got the figure for it! :)

    1. Ah Halcyon, you are most clever - 'Spice-girl' WAS dressed (in costume) as Alice in Wonderland!! She was off to a bridal shower. Apparently dress-ups are the go with Bridal Showers these days! :)

    2. Halcyon, sorry, yes that cylindrical building was once a Hotel and I believe that some or all of it has been converted to apartments. The City Centre here is pretty much dead. It's between 30-40 yrs old and has always been affectionately known as the sugar-shaker.

    3. I am planning on a baby shower in September. Perhaps costumes would be a good idea. :)
Thanks for the info on the sugar shaker. That makes it even more attractive as a place to live for me!

Oh, what lovely old buildings! There is just 'something' about them and they all have stories to tell.
Oh, I always dress up like that for afternoon tea, don't you? :)

  6. Great pictures-and everything looks so clean and neat..I admire the older buildings, they seem to have more character, style and a certain elegance about them..It is as though the builders of the era took a degree of pride in their craftsmanship and showed off their abilities (especially with the Cri)..Have a great time at your sleep-over..P.S.-I think that girl is a living doll!!

    1. Hi JIm, I could just roam about snapping pics of old buildings. I just love them. Sleep-over was great! A living doll eh? She'll like that.
And yes it is quite a clean and neat city (town) it never feels like a city, but more like a very large country town with most things a large city has to offer.

    1. Jana, I miss so many too! Will be in the car and the sun is in the wrong place; don't dig the camera out quick enough; something will enter the shot and obscure the photo and on it goes.

  9. Haha, who is that crazy woman with her legs dangling in the air? Um, is she related to the scarily frocked girl-woman in the pic below? Whoever they are, they sure look like they know how to have a bit of fun (grin)..

What a gorgeous land you live in.
