If you go down to the ponds today, you're sure of a big surprise.....

No teddy bears, just magpie geese and ducks. No pond lillies, but lots of lovely ripples and reflections - and the big surprise, the ever elusive Mr Turtle made his presence known (actually there was lots of turtles but only this one appeared for me -  in a shy kind of way.
Enjoy the images of my walk to the ponds!

Now you see me                                                                                      now you don't

What? you won't give me bread?? Everyone else does.

Ripples and reflections aplenty at the ponds today

It's been a while since I've posted and I seemed to have taken a break from blogging albeit unintentionally. I will look forward to catching up with many of you and your recent posts over the next few days.

    1. Thanks EC, it's always calming and interesting! down at the ponds. I really went to the shop to buy milk (which is next door to the ponds) and of course bloggers always have their cams on them so spent a lovely hour there before the short walk home.

  5. Hi Rose....great to see another lovely post from you and what beautiful pictures you have shared with us today. Love the little turtle popping up to say hello. Those reflections quite take my breath away and that last little fellow, what an unusual bird.
You have so much beauty so close to where you go to shop, how fortunate you are.
I too have been a little haphazard with my blogging of late. Still getting over losing little Precious but getting there.

    1. Dear Mimsie, I really must give myself a good shake and get with it and start blogging regularly again. -chuckle- I've been waiting over 12 months for that darn turtle to stick his nose out, well A turtle. I nearly dropped the camera with excitement, lucky I had the wrist strap on!
You'll never get over losing your Precious Mimsie, but it'll get a little easier for you in time.
It's a new week and I'll be thinking of you.

  6. Those ducks are gorgeous! I have never seen ones like that, but of course, you probably do have species there that we do not have in Oregon!
    Great shots!

    1. I'm a little embarrassed Rose, because I don't know the type of duck they are! I'll have to google them and hope for the best. You have many lovely species over there!
Thanks Rose for the encouragement :)

    1. I love the Magpie geese personality and the amazing fact that they roost in trees but, you know the old saying about beauty being in the eye of the beholder? - that's how I feel about Magpie geese!

  11. Such a colourful post Rose, I love that Plumed Whistler.
I watched Queensland's presentation for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the TV, and though I've visited the Gold Coast they sold Queensland beautifully.
You may already have seen this page, but here's the link anyway Gold Coast 2018

    1. Wow Jim, I haven't even seen the presentation! I can imagine they have sold Qld well though.
I'll follow the link for sure, I'm most curious.
The Plumed Whistler is my favourite of all the ducks who visit the ponds. He was chortling away at me as I took those photos. He is just as comfortable on land as in water - in fact he grazes on land and, he never ever dives like other ducks. He's quite unique.

    1. Thanks Friko, there's lots of striking and beautifully marked ducks from around the world, but one would travel far to find a duck as "cute" as the Plumed Whistler. He's a character and as you indicate, a real show off.

  13. Good to see you back, Rose. These ducks have such unusual markings - the Magpies are dressed like the Magpie bird here but are geese and have those red faces! Love the Whistler, too.

  14. Thanks Barb! speaking of magpies, a family has set up residence in a tree in our street. The kids on bikes better watch it spring is coming!
