Castle Hill is in essence a pink monolith situated in the heart of the city boasting views in every direction - over Cleveland Bay and out to Magnetic Island or inland to the mountain ranges. It's very popular with the locals who enjoy its offerings for fitness and training by way of its tarred road winding up 2.6kms or its goat track. During WWII the hill (rising 940ft) was used as a comms and observation post. Anyhow back to the present. Two days ago Spice-girl encouraged me to give it a go (I didn't believe I would even make it half way up) but put on a brave face. To quote her I 'smashed' it!
We arrived in the dark, it was decidedly chilly with a crisp wind blowing (lovely) and set off.
We made it to the top and as we turned to make our descent, the sun was rising over Cleveland Bay and put on a lovely display.
And the day really dawned as we made our way down
Morning had truly broken as we made our final descent
HAPPY BLOGGING

Way to go girl! I am proud of you. I like the picture of you and your daughter.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of your week ~ FlowerLady
Thanks Lorraine! I fudged the photo of us as I was beautiful shades of red and purple I think! Not a good look! :)
DeleteLove it. And what a beautiful, invigorating start to the day. Those early morning shots are sublime. Congratulations - and thank you.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the cold EC, and it really was chilly with a stiff breeze - it inspired me! And the views were truly sublime.
DeleteThat's a heck of a climb. Beautiful views too.
ReplyDeleteHi River, they tell me it gets easier! But I have established I shan't be trying the goat track path up! It was worth it for the views especially whilst it was still dark with all the city lights.
Deletewell done those 2 women :) what a neat way to start the day.
ReplyDeleteDiana
Thanks Diana, I'm even thinking of doing it again next Monday! Mmm, we'll see. :)
DeleteA challenge faced and finished! Proud of you!! I am sure you will plan more challenges in the future!
ReplyDeleteRose, I was more anxious about attempting it then I let on. It was a challenge and I so surprised myself. All that gym work has made me fitter than I thought!
DeleteWhat a fantastic hike, loved all the photos but especially the last one :) Good for you, it must have been a very rewarding feeling having challenged yourself like that, and succeeding.
ReplyDeleteThat's it Denise - a challenge that was oh so rewarding!
DeleteAnd that's the icing on the cake :) Brilliant!
DeleteWow how awesome that you made it to the top!! What awesome views from up there - especially that view of everything lit up at nighttime.
ReplyDeleteDouble-awesome that I did indeed make it to the top Keith! And, without too much of a struggle I have to say. :)
DeleteI am so very proud of you! YOU GO, GIRL!
ReplyDeleteSweet thing - thank you! :)
DeleteIt looks like a beautiful, interesting place to visit!
ReplyDeleteIt is Nikki, but one has to keep one's eyes on where they're walking otherwise it's all too easy to topple over the side!
DeleteWhat an adventure! Wish I was there with you - incredible sunrise.
ReplyDeleteYes Barb, it was one of 'those' sunrises and it is more oft than not quite spectacular rising over the bay. I reckon you would have beat all of us to the top Barb. You have the best place on earth to get fit on hills! or rather mountains!
DeletePhotos turned out great ma!
ReplyDeleteAll the others were too dark or blurry! Never mind Spicie, that's all we need. :)
DeleteWell done! That's one thing I've never tried. Hubbie used to do the hill a few times every week, but that meant a bit of a drive. Now we walk the foothills out here at the Creek. Great photos, by the way. It really is one of the best places to live!
ReplyDeleteThe foothills out your way would be just lovely for walking Bernie. I think you have more snakes out that way though! Although daughter sure gets her fair share in the newish suburb at the foothill of Mt Louisa.
DeleteYes we definitely see more snakes out here. I'm forever stomping around the place like a mad woman letting them know that I'm coming!
DeleteAh, of course - the old vibration thing is supposed to send them in another direction!
DeleteWell done Rose, a great idea to get up early before the heat of the day.
ReplyDeleteIf I do get up to Queensland in 2015 I'll expect a guided tour.
You're on Jim, it would be my pleasure (provided you come in winter time and preferably July!) Oh, that's if there's lots of walking involved! I kid, any time Jim!
DeleteWow---proud of you for making it all the way UP UP UP there... That is neat --and you got some great photos. There are times I make it farther than I ever thought I would when we hike...
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
Betsy I think you and George would have been able to sprint it up there, what with all the hiking and stairs you two seem to climb!! Oh but what images you bring back to us to enjoy!
DeleteWow! Just a fantastic hike, Rose!
ReplyDeleteLove all photos!
Love to see you and your daughter too!
I would love to be there with both of you!
Many hugs.
Bravo Rose! So worth it for those views. We surprise ourselves sometimes by the the things we can do :) would love to have a walk like that handy.. Perth is a wee bit flat compared to other Oz cities but I'm sure if I looked I could find something!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sunrise.
