Before and afters of my mini make-over in the driveway and front entry. May as well work on the outside as well, whilst waiting and waiting for furniture to arrive.
Not for a minute did I really believe I could pull those bushes out on my own - but I did. I put in termite resistant red cypress topping and and a row of solar lights. I freshly painted the front door, porch floor, new mats and some pretty parlour palms. Looks much tidier and modern.

WOW those bushes fit in that small space? Or is it just the perspective? Either way it looks great!
ReplyDeleteNo Bonnie, not perspective - it is very narrow only about 12-14 inches wide. It does look better huh? With having only a single driveway visitors can now open their car doors much more easily on that side.
DeleteThanks!
HI Rose! Oh, what a pretty entry to your home! I'm like your other commenter, it's hard to believe those bushy bushes were in that little narrow bed. They were pretty. Thank you so much for popping in to see me and you've just humbled me so with your kind words.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
be a sweetie,
Shelia ;0
The root system wasn't the nightmare I imagined it to be Shelia, but still took some muscle!
DeleteAnd, you're very welcome sweet lady.
I'm so jealous of successful DIY-ers!! That's because I'm SO not ...
ReplyDeleteLOVE your new header pic!
I do like my DIY stuff Marion!
DeleteThe header turned out so good and I keep an eye on them all the time. Fright this morning, could see parents but no chicks. All is well, they were so well cammed I just couldn't see them until they got up!
Gardening yes, DIY no; that’s me.
ReplyDeleteYou’ve worked very hard and it shows.
Thanks Friko, plants will be my challenge - I just don't understand them!
DeleteI agree Rose, a nice no fuss entryway..anything that leaves more time for more important things...like perhaps your passion for birding?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Grace!
DeleteLove it Rose, it looks so pristine!
ReplyDeleteInside and outside of this new little cottage of mine is going to be 'minimalist' - I believe that's the new word for little ornamentation and zero clutter of "things". The complete opposite of what I've always had before in a home.
DeleteRose, your new home is looking wonderful. Love the little solar lights too! Those bushes were pretty but like you say, not much room for people getting out of their car. It all looks so fresh and inviting. Grreat work mate. No worries, and love, Carol (and Stella and Rory)
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol! I have to keep reminding myself that I"m going 'minimalist' because there's so many cute and gorgeous "things" out there to buy and clutter up with!!
Delete(woof-woof to Stella and Rory)
Yo! Rose, your the girl..........I'm sorry my rock chick seems to be leaking through to the surface these days, something about the inner me (younger me) being more on the outside as I'm losing weight, I'm recognising my old self, unfortunately it's re surfaced a bit late in life, that would be about right, I'm always bucking the trend. When I was 25 I thought I was over the hill, now I'm 54 I think I'm enjoying myself, in the best possible taste of course.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously well done, that must have taken much determination and back breaking effort, I'm just running around being girly, I'm sure I will get over it soon.
So YO respect! XxCCLxX
You light up my life you cranky chick CCL! - I'm 56 (v. soon) so I dig it.
DeleteHahahahaha. YO....
That's FABULOUS that you are enjoying yourself! You go girl.
Mmm, today I'm feeling every one of my 56 :(
xx
YOU certainly did DIG IT, thats why you are feeling it now.
DeleteWell done Rose! I'm impressed. I always put jobs like that off because it's just too hot and I always end up covered in mozzie bites and cobwebs. Having Elsie is my excuse now... it's too difficult doing jobs like that with an inquisitive little puppy around. So, any time you feel the urge, I've got a row of sickly looking hibiccies that need some attention! I'm also quite envious of your lights. Flo chewed all of mine up when she was a puppy and there seems little point in replacing them now.
ReplyDeleteYou know this is just the beginning, don't you? Your Christmas wish list will now include Bunnings gift cards... it's a slippery slope.
Enjoy your Sunday. :)
Thanks H!! I like to impress. :) That job HAD to be done in the morning as the sun hit out there around 3 and def too hot by then. I still got hot and bothered and cussed a bit here and there. Muttered I suppose, but it was good because the neighbour next door there is away for several weeks, so I could cuss and mutter a bit LOUDER.
DeleteYou won't believe this, but I have not a one hibiscus! and my village is called Hibiscus Village! That's a loooong way for me to come to get some cuttings..... ;)
HAHA, don't mention Bunnings Gift Cards, it really hurt to give my DIY daughter one for her birthday recently!
I've knocked off for the day now and am having a lazy afternoon.
You have a good one too.
x
Wow! Great work Rose! I whish that I had skills like that. I don't have 'green fingers' at all... ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreetings from the Netherlands,
DzjieDzjee
Haha Gert and thank you for the praise!
DeleteNicely done Rose, I'm starting to paint my freshly pebble dashed gable end wall tomorrow. I hope the weather forecast is correct. Will I get it done in three days is the question.
ReplyDeleteSounds like HEIGHT is involved with your project Jim -shudder- Three up on the ladder is my limit!
DeleteForget the toy boy. You obviously have your own muscles. I have a row of murrayas I should have taken out 10 years ago. I think I would need a bobcat to shift those roots now :(
ReplyDeleteHaha, there are no toy boys or otherwise here! Latest stats say that women outnumber men 5 -1 TRUE. What a place hey?
DeleteAre murrayas what I just pulled out??
These muscles are so sore at the moment I'm flat out even pushing a broom around :(
Hard to tell from the picture though the way those new shoots are growing, I think not. Are the flowers white and fragrant? It may be a plumbago (sticky purple flowers) or heaven forbid, a privet? (Purple flowers, orange seeds).
DeleteOoops, forgot. I think the ratio in your town/village sucks. Sorry to say, you should move out pronto, there is obviously no future there ;)
DeleteSounds like it could've been a privet, flowers sound right but I haven't seen any orange seeds AND there's another hedge of this stuff on the other side of the drive (the one the neighbour keeps trimmed) it's our boundary so a bit iffy as to how I go about getting rid of it - 'specially as I"m the new kid on the block!
DeleteI know, I know - few prospects in this here town!! ;)
Oh goodness me, girl, you have been busy! Wow, what a terrific result, it's looking great, isn't it? You should be feeling very proud of yourself, I'm betting you ached a bit that night? Job well done, eh?
ReplyDeleteYep ache is an understatement Carol, I feel 156 instead of 56 at the moment!!
DeleteThanks for the encouragement, there's more to come!
What an amazing before and after! I love it :)
ReplyDeleteWell, thank you Keith (and the whole job cost less than $25)
DeleteIt's looking good!!!
ReplyDeleteYAY, Hal!
DeleteLooks great Rose! I love the cypress mulch, I used it at my last house. It's become impossible to find around this area now.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Love the header pic! The birds I like with babies! Awesome!
DeleteI've been in and out all day and haven't seen the Curlew family once today so I'm pretty anxious. It's very hot as well so I'm hoping they've just found a cool spot and will come out tonight. :(
ReplyDeleteYes I love that cypress mulch because of its rich red colour (which I'm hoping will stay nice and red for a loooong time) and for its termite resistant properties. Termites are a real worry up here. Well in all parts of Australia except Tasmania really.
What? you could find nothing to say on my toy post ;)
Looks very nice the new entry to your home!
ReplyDeleteI like to see photos "before" and "after".
Have a good day! :)
Thank you Sonia dear!!
DeleteWow! What a difference!!!
