Salons ain't salons

Whilst reorganising my photo files I came across this one from my trip to Cairns Nth Qld (in May/Jun) during my Townsville stay with my daughters.

It is the most fun, clever and unique Hairdressing Salon I've ever been into.

Do you know of a salon just as imaginative and creative which could feature on your blog?

  1. Dear Stalker,

Nah, our salons here are posh. We're in the big city, y'know ;)

And WHY does Fred get to go bush and not the others?

Because, if Fred is left home he howls mournfully the whole time - he is his boss's right hand man. And today, there is only (just) room for one dog only. Jack and Larry don't express their displeasure as clearly as Fred and can be easily bought with both treats, a walk around the hill at the back here, and a game of soccer! Fred can't be bought/bribed at all.... :)

  5. So Creative, I love it. I have never seen one this decorated but heard of a "barber chair" that was a horse for kids to sit in while they got a haircut. I wonder if the kids would sit still in it . Makes me want to go.

  6. Hi Rose, We are home from our trip... It was AWESOME..... Hope you have had a good month.

That is a creative and clever salon for sure. When I first saw that old car, I thought it was a 1950's restaurant!!!! We have those around here.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

    1. Welcome home Betsy!! Wow you have retro restaurants?! I'll be straight over to visit! Pictures, lots of pictures!

  7. Wow, I'm not sure if that's awesome, tacky, or both!

  8. Hello Rose:
This is most certainly taking retro that one step further. But whether forward or back, we cannot quite decide. But what great fun it all is and we should have loved to have seen and experienced it for ourselves.

    1. Hello Jane and Lance,
From what I could gather none of the decor items are replicas, but rather everything is original and authentic. Someone went to a lot of trouble.
      Take care!

  9. I remember a Romanesque themed hairdressing unisex salon and spa in London back in the 60's. Togas were worn by customers and staff alike. It was very expensive, but my buddy and I gave it the once over while on army leave. As Michele Shocked says in the song 'Anchorage' "we was wild then"
    Seems like Fred's nobody's fool.

    1. Now see Jim, the interesting things that come to light from others (you) just from a post. The mad 60's huh?! I would loved to have seen that place and I bet profits were grand. Togas .... really?!

No indeed, no flies on Fred.

  10. I definitely have not been to a cooler hair salon than this, how fab to be the receptionist there, especially if it was ok to toot the horn every now and then..or maybe not, someone could end up minus a chunk of hair haha! Lucky Fred..

    1. Hi Grace I wonder if everyone has figured out that the car is the reception desk. Haha no horn tooting.....just in case.

  11. I love the colors of that salon, the aqua/turquoise. They're beautiful!!!

    1. Nikki, the colours really helped the whole establishment NOT to look garish. If it had have been done in the bright reds and yellows etc retro, it would have looked tacky and downright awful.

  12. I can say with certainty that I've never been to a salon quite like this! Did you get your hair done there? They must have quite a reputation to live up to. :)

  13. We have some of these theme salons around here too. Mainly sports theme and geared for men. Oh and there are plenty of 'kid friendly' salons too. As for me, the same woman has been cutting my hair for the past +20 years. I just keep following her where she goes.
I think Jack has your number, and just like a naughty kid, knows how to play you like a 'fine tuned fiddle' in that a little howling gets him what he wants ;o)
I know this because my dogs do the same thing!

    1. Aha so themed salons do exist elsewhere :) Lucky you having the same hairdresser all that time! She must be good.

  17. Very cool, I think I would enjoy going to a place like that. Love the pictures of the dogs too. Thanks for stopping by my chicken post and guess what? I investigated the claim about the turken and it is not as was said, part chicken part turkey, but one hundred percent chicken. Just a funny looking one that looks and sounds like a turkey ;)

  24. Learning Spanish, getting out of rehab and back to capoeira, enjoying the fabulous sunshine (though I hear there will be a bloody southerly change over the next few days), still cleaning can you believe it? Starting to fix things too. Blog? Who's got time to blog? I don't miss it either though I do feel a tad guilty. I think this is what they mean by "bullied by the blog". You taking a break too? Maybe we should just all enjoy the sun! Abrazos y besos :) X

    1. Good to hear! good to hear! and yep the southerly change is coming I believe, here today its damp, chilly and raining. We do need the rain though :) LOADS of people around blogland have been taking breaks, I think "bullied by the blog" holds a ring of truth.
Anyway, let's just enjoy the sun, enjoy a break!
