Last month daughter Melissa, AKA 'Spice-girl' in my posts, was my march-buddy in the Melanoma March-for-a-cure. On Sunday, Spice-girl honoured the 10th year of her father's passing by being involved with the 2014 "I can for cancer campaigne" and chose to have the
shave. With the generosity of her supporters, donors and sponsors she raised well over $2,000 for the Queensland Cancer Council's campaigne. It was an emotional afternoon event, one that almost didn't go ahead as Cyclone Ita (downgraded to a Category 1) was literally passing overhead as we prepared for the guests to arrive.
Going......
.......going
gone! (final swipe by 'moi')
BEFORE
AFTER
Amid the numerous events one can elect for their fundraising venture, Spice-girl chose the shave because in her words.... " I'm healthy and have the choice whether to have hair, many cancer warriors don't"
HAPPY BLOGGING
Oh, Rose - your daughter is so lovely both with and without her hair. I like what she said, too - her choice in honor of those who have no choice. Good for her!
ReplyDeleteHello Rose,
ReplyDeleteThis post is so touching. Your daughter made a brave choice indeed and what an inspiration she is. Wonderful that she raised so much money for a well deserving cause. Many people do not realise how many cancer support organisations and hospices rely on public donations for their very existence.
And how beautiful Melissa is. She is living proof that it is the beauty within that makes a person beautiful. Her grace shines through. How proud you must be of her.
Tremendous daughter you have there Rose, this post was so sweet and how proud of her you must be, but then she's got a mother to be proud of too. Obviously the apple doesn't fall far from the tree :))). Thank you my friend, for sharing this heartwarming post with us. Denise x
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful daughter you have, Rose... She is pretty with or without hair... What a GREAT cause.... Good for her!!! I know you are proud of her.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
Well done, that girl. A young friend of mine did that last year and everyone was stunned by how beautiful she is without hair. As if the inner beauty can be seen more easily with the outer layer. I think it's the same with your daughter. How proud you must be of her! (I'm glad Ita didn't linger!)
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! What a truly wonderful gesture by your daughter!! I must say she looks beautiful even without her hair..I must repeat what has been already said--her inner beauty shines through..It would be so interesting if you were to post a few pictures of her as her hair grows back..A wonderful cause that your good people are supporting..Cancer took my dad on July 15th of 1999--perhaps I will follow "Spice-Girl's" example..Thanks for this heart warming post--Jim
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous effort. Well done to your daughter. It takes courage to shave your hair and I really respect anyone who makes that gesture.
ReplyDeleteSo brave of her!
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is beautiful inside and out, with or without her hair.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely Easter ~ FlowerLady
She is beautiful before and after!
ReplyDeleteMy dear daughter in law grows her pretty hair long then has it cut to make wigs for cancer sufferers and others who need them.
How lovely our young people are.
Cheers!
A wonderful gesture for a great cause Rose.
ReplyDeleteIn that first picture Spice-girl appears to be mimicking your profile picture above to the right. The likeness is amazing.
Have a great Easter weekend.
And she looks just as pretty without hair as with.
ReplyDeleteI think this really should be done when summer is looming so shaved heads don't get cold and covered up with hats and turbans.
Spice Girl is absolutely gorgeous! With and without the tresses. I admit to liking the Mohawk a lot, too! Tell her not to forget sunscreen on the dome! I have a dear friend having chemo and she wears scarves and turbans and she looks so retro bohemian. Especially when she wears large hoop earrings!
ReplyDeleteSending much love your direction, Rose. Share a bit of it with Spice Girl!
Thankyou so much everyone for your kind words and comments! We had a lovely afternoon and managed to get to the $2500 mark so very happy with that! Such an easy way to raise money and I would do it again in a heartbeat, as I kept telling a lot of people "It's only hair it'll grow back!"
ReplyDeleteWell done to your daughter and to you for the walk. She looks beautiful without hair. I lost my brother to melanoma 3 years ago. He lived in England but spent many years in Australia and New Guinea.
ReplyDeleteBravo Melissa, you look fabulous before and even more so after, the joy in your eyes is wonderful to see. What an incredible achievement, you must be so proud Rose.. and you did the deed did you (that sounded odd) :) must have felt a wee bit strange, hope there were no nicks :)
ReplyDeleteGood for Melissa, and she looks positively BEAUTIFUL sans hair! And her contribution isn't over. Every time someone asks why she decided to shave her head, she can spread the spirit!
ReplyDeleteSpice girl is beautiful with and without hair.
ReplyDeleteI hope her and everybody else’s efforts will meet with plenty of generosity.
Having survived cancer myself I know that research is absolutely essential and costs money.
Rose, I haven't commented until now but I felt like I should. Your post are very moving and very close to my heart. We buried my beautiful sister-in-law two months ago from melanoma cancer. She was 51 and has a beautiful 16 year old daughter Karley, and a 19 year old son Gavin. She was a light from heaven and will be very very missed. I haven't blogged or read blogs in a long while, I just felt a void but then I read yours and here we are!. Your daughter is very brave and what a wonderful cause. Love to you! Cheri
ReplyDeleteYou have a brave and generous daughter. And she doesn't look so bad without the hair. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, and I'm not biased Hal. ;)
