A tribute to Mother Jana

As I write from the tropics this is not the post I expected to be doing.
I have already finished a post and have it in 'drafts' but, if I do not do this post now, right now I will never do it and if I never do it I will be sorry, and it's certainly not in full but only in summary.
Yesterday 'other half' rang me and I learnt that Jana, Mother of The Team and AKA Princess, Pretty Girl, Sweetheart, Darlin', my Cheeky Chicken unexpectedly but instantly died of a massive heart attack. She was following the boss and the boys to the river for a swim. She did not make it. There was no warning. She just fell over and was dead.  We are all in shock, Alpha male Fred rarely leaves her grave. The boss is inconsolable and I am in denial, not good positions for any of us.  This little lady is worthy of a post titled "This is Your Life".  The courage and bravery she has constantly shown throughout her life is not even a tiny bit short of astounding. Another time perhaps, but not today. I am totally unable today.

I was about to choose a selection of my favourite photos of Jana, and there are many beautiful and more photogenic ones than the single photo I've chosen to honour her. There are lovely photos, poignant photos of her on the blog in "A Dog's Post Script" but his photo for me shows the window to her beautiful soul.

  1. Oh Rose, we are so very sorry. We offer our sincere sympathy on sweet Jana passing to the Rainbow Bridge. It's obvious, you all loved her and she loved you right back. A dog could ask for no more. Love Carol (and Stella and Rory)

  2. Oh Rose, how very very sad for you. She will always be a part of your life. At least she did not suffer. When the time is right, you will write her story. Hugs to you for this sad time in your life. RIP Jana

Endings, loss and more loss, shifting sands, will we ever be able to feel stable.

  5. Oh no! Not Mother Jana! I'm so sorry, Rose. I know you wish you could have been with her too. But to have gone like that, so quickly, about to do something she enjoys with her Team [albeit minus you]... it was a good way to go. More words fail me. A very big hug X

  13. I am sorry to hear of Janna passing on. Our beloved animals are part of our family, are like children to us. It breaks our hearts when we lose them. I know she was well-loved and you will miss her deeply. Know that you gave her a wonderful and loving life. You both were blessed to have each other.

  18. Oh Rose, I have tears on my eyes reading this post... My heart breaks for you and I am so sorry for your loss. Our dogs truly become part of our families. But I am sure that Jana had a wonderfully happy life with you.
Love the photo of Jana, she has sweet eyes and I agree with you, this photo shows the window to her beautiful soul.

I know how terrible it is to lose a beloved pet. I lost my dear Flora in July 12, 2011 and I miss and remember her so much...
    With a warm embrace,
    Sonia.

  21. So sorry Rose, it's a heartbreaking business when our beloved pets pass, and takes so long to get over, but as someone said, she was happy right up until the end and she wasn't in any pain, that's a blessing for her. You picked exactly the right picture of her for your tribute, her face is the picture of love and loyalty.

What a beautiful dog. I'm sorry for the loss, Rose. Like so many of your readers, I know what it's like. But it must have been particularly difficult to have had no preparation. Hard on you, but better for Jana. All the best to you.
