And that isn't going to happen, not now - not ever.

Well here's the short version. Tamworth to Sydney, lovely. Landed, and the cutest little bus you ever saw collected us country mugs right from the plane and drove us around to the terminal to depart for Perth. How nice I thought. Like a proverbial sheep I followed the mob into the Terminal and looked around for those flight screens that would tell me which departure Gate to head for (took an age to find them because they had changed the location and style of them compared to 8 or so years ago when I was last there) Blood pressure up only half a notch. Up 3 notches when it became obvious to me there was no mention of my flight to Perth. None. Like z.e.r.o. Cabin shoulder bag was really causing me some grief by now. It was heavy. I was breaking out in perspiration and, I. don't. do. sweat. I walked for what seemed miles looking at every screen I could find and /or something which would indicate I hadn't been transported to LaLa or GaGa land. But no, still the same thing. Blood pressure was nearly off the scale by this stage when, there! close by, was my about-to-be HERO - a gun-toting security guard with a kindly face - whom I practically fell upon in tears. ( A slight exaggeration but you're feeling my relief I'm sure) I had 30 minutes left according to my itinerary. I had already been walking around in circles for 40 minutes! I wasn't even in the right terminal. What airport has domestic flights leaving from different terminals???!! Sheesh. Who can believe this! I had to walk more miles (with my own personal guide, who did not offer to carry my heavy, (but not over the limit cabin bag)
I'm wised up this time. I know I have to leave from Terminal 3, and I even found a mud map of the airport and I know where the walkway is located connecting the two terminals now. No flies on this girl this trip. A scaled down version of the map is in my purse (if I need to refer to it) Oh yes.
Preparation is the name of this game.
My post is starting to ramble so you don't want to know how when departing Perth I got completely entangled in that Qantas dispute, the one where every plane in the fleet was grounded here and around the world. No,no we won't go there. Not today...............

| Townsville, my home town. CBD, the Esplanade and Marina with Castle Hill in the background. My youngest daughter runs up that hill for fun and fitness. She would love to partake in a famous marathon. |

| From our little rural town/village in the Upper Hunter to Townsville in North Queensland is a distance of 1,781 kms and would take 21 hours of non-stop driving to get there. |
I am hoping to also spend a few days over at Maggie Island on my own, to just switch off and recharge my batteries. Maggie is a favourite with the locals and surprisingly its never really taken off as a huge touristy place. Its more like another suburb of Townsville but in a very laid back, slow-paced, island way. It is a true jewel in the ocean. Lots of memories (all good) over there for me. The perfect place to contemplate the joys and complexities that life holds.
I am going to enjoy posting on the blog (thank goodness for laptops) (and with all my own photos, as I detest having to resort to using public domain photos as I have in this post) and showing you some of the tropics through my lens!! I'm hoping to be posting much more often than usual as I'd like it to be a kind of diary/pictorial of my time away. And naturally I will keep up with what's happening in your world on your Blog! I always look forward to that.
Be kind to yourselves, and until Silent Sunday (ahem) - I'll just enjoy following you!

Looks fabulous!! Have a great time and I can't wait to see your post!
ReplyDeleteHi Cheri, I just realised perhaps I shouldn't have put this post up so soon......I should have kept it for just a few days before I left!! Never mind, I'll just have to get creative with some posts before I go and anyway........Silent Sunday is easy hey? ...just a pic!!!
DeleteOOOOHHHHHH time with your family is a special time for sure! Enjoy your time with them and here's to a worry free flight ;o)
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, Mammma - I am pre-pared!
DeleteLooks great and I'm sure you'll have a great time...We want pictures...Have a great time and enjoy your family.
ReplyDeleteJana, its just going to be fabulous. My home town has changed immensely in 16 years and I"m looking forward to exploring. There will be some great pics for sure!
DeleteAnd now that the fam will be together I will take recent pics and make introductions!
Sounds like a perfect trip, not just beautiful tropics but family and friends. I have heard of Magnetic Island but can't remember what I heard :)
ReplyDeleteYour daughter ran up that hill in the tropics? Amazing woman! it makes me sweat just to look at it.
Hi Jenny, I know, I thought a nice little jog along the promenade would be just as good. And much more attractive, but NO to be anyone who's anyone one must "do" the 'goat track' ! :)
DeleteSo sorry to hear about your Sydney Airport experience GUFFAW. they keep changing it around too [or maybe that's just my imagination]. I always make my hubby mad by insisting on going way early.
ReplyDeleteA Townie girl! I've been there twice, both times for capoeira festivals. And on to Maggie of course. It was lovely there, laidback, not too many people.
Happy Easter! Hope you have a fabulous break and that the sun keeps shining. Loving autumn so far :) x
Hi Ms Pea. Ay, so you've been up there!! LOving the autumn too.....Happy Easter xx :)
DeleteOh Rose! You're going on Holiday! To visit the Daughters!!! Hugz to you and to them. Loved, loved, loved your post, you Ramblin' Woman!
ReplyDeleteTamara, (hehe) if you and I wrote a book together it would be of 'epic' proportions! I told another great friend recently that I type faster than anyone can talk so for me it doesn't seem I've said much and then, I have to hold back. Are you a speed reader as well?
DeleteTamara, PS I love the title you gave me and the hugs!!
DeleteWOW!!Sound's like an excellent time for you and yours!! Really hope we get to see some photos of your family and home town..Might be a silly question but is there any significance to the name MAGNETIC Island?? Your adventure in the airport reminded me of some of the military flights I have taken..I now fly only when I must--or if I'm wearing a parachute (I do enjoy the occasional skydive)..Feel more in control of the landing..Just LOVE those beautiful dogs of yours..Hope to hear from you soon--JIM
ReplyDeleteHi ya Jim, there'll be lots of photos - lots of posts! Not a silly question at all, Magnetic Island was named such as good old Captain Cooks ship compass went a little haywire as he neared the Island and at that time thought there must have a mineral or the like, but of course studies have proven that to be incorrect. Now its just known for its 'magnetic' appeal. It really is a gem. YOU DIDN'T TELL ME YOU DO SKYDIVE AS WELL????
ReplyDeleteThe red furries are gorgeous aren't they?! Talk soon....
I do hope this trip will be fun, relaxing and filled with lovely surprises. In other words, have fun! I will so look forward to seeing pictures and reading posts.
ReplyDeleteDear Rose, thank you so much for these lovely wishes, and I promise lots of pics and posts. Thinking of you and that all is well in your part of the world.
DeleteHi Rose, your frantic flight story reminds me of my long ordeal from Wellington to Calgary, 2003 Trip so you have my fullest sympathies.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind thoughts, enjoy your trip to the tropics.
Looking forward to silent Sunday.
Hello Jim, I knew there would be some really good airport stories out there :) I will enjoy for sure! Thank you..
ReplyDeleteah traveling is so stressful isn't it, with making flights. I hope all goes smoothly with yours.
ReplyDeletelook forward to catching up with your photos later, Rose! Best, k
Take care Kitty!! catch you later too.... x
DeleteSounds like a huge amount of travel.....but worth it in the end.
ReplyDeleteYou make Australia seem most attractive.
One day I'll get there.
All best from me and Buster the dog.
Thanks Elizabeth, Oz is a darn big country when one starts flying around it (well really not at all unlike the USA)almost the same.
DeleteTake care Buster! - I'm still thinking of your baby pic. :)
What a great blog post to read. What a wonderful feeling it must be to have something like this in perspective.
ReplyDeleteA holiday with your family around you also. I can imagine that you're excited. I'm already looking forward to seeing your pictures and messages of your journey. How long will you be gone anyway?
Quite funny actually. I have family living in Austrailia. My grandfather emigrated in 1962. I have already learned more about Aussie from your blog than from my own family;-)
Gert Jan, I had no idea you had family here! I knew a wonderful man called Eugene who was a wonderful photographer but he has since passed on. I won't let the team down and I'll be sure to post and pic regularly. :)
DeleteMy goodness! You'd probably be better off taking a bus or something! It sounds like your cross country trip is going to take longer than my trip from Toronto to Berlin. :S Hope it works out better this time anyway. :)
ReplyDeleteHalcyon, a good book is a necessity, and I'm prepared this time! :)
DeleteYou and I will be leaving on trips the same day - now that I've read about your last flight, I'm hoping for better luck with mine! Your destination looks lovely - should be a photographer's dreamscape. I'm traveling on a Girlfriends' vacation to the desert for some hiking and relaxation. Good luck to both of us!
ReplyDeleteBarb, that's fabulous! Yes better luck with your airports......wow I can't wait to see some of your desert pics!! They will be sensational for sure. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have a great time ahead of you Rose. It looks absolutely beautiful there, I can't wait to see your pics! Let's just hope that the traveling to and from goes smoother this time. Have fun, recharge and I can't wait for the blogs.
ReplyDeleteStay tuned Kev!!
